3 - Quietly changing the world
The experiment continues quietly and slowly but it gets more and more exciting as we progress. Last week some of my English students were given a presentation by another of my students, Paulo.
Paulo is an expert on blockchain development and he is also becoming an accomplished speaker of English as a second language. The presentation was titled Blockchain basics and Paulo provided a beginners guide to the technology behind the crypto phenomenon. To attend his class you needed to pay with a token.
Nothing new you say, a dollar is just a token and NFT tickets have been around for a while. But, for Paulo’s class you had a new way to pay. You could pay with a Paulo token, a James token or a Luis token. In the AddonX eco-system each provider creates their own personal token and each provider is obliged to accept their own personal token as payment for their service. But, and here is the exciting part, each provider can also choose to accept the token of another provider as payment.
I am a provider of a service, I teach English. This service has a value and also a demand. In exchange for each of my tokens I promise a place in one of my English classes. If you have one of my tokens you can exchange it for an English class. Or, because Paulo has decided to accept James tokens for his class you can exchange your token for a Blockchain basics class. Paulo has decided to accept James tokens as payment because they have a value to him; he is learning English.
Luis is another provider and a consumer of services. He has been my student, refining his English with me for many years and he also has extensive experience in the financial sector. Both Paulo and I are interested in the financial sector so we asked Luis if he would prepare some presentations to share with us. Luis agreed and created some Luis tokens which he could offer as acceptable payment for his classes. Now, Luis is also interested in the blockchain, and because Paulo is interested in the financial sector Paulo decided to accept Luis tokens as payment for his blockchain classes. Luis can pay Paulo with a Luis token and Paulo can use this token to book a class with Luis!
Our experiment is starting to get more exciting and more complex now, but fortunately all our transactions are permanently recorded on the blockchain so we can track and trace all our tokens in real time. Quietly, we are changing the world.
